Please post your thoughts about this course below.  What did you like about it?  What didn’t you like about it?  Would you recommend this book study to a colleague?

Comments

  1. I enjoyed this book and the outlook they both have on teaching and education as a whole. I do like how they incorporated having a growth mindset vs. a fixed mindset. Emphasizing this is important if we, as educators, want our students to have that growth mindset as well. I would love to recommend this book to some colleagues, as we have had conversations regarding students who need more encouragement than others, and that teaching isn't a one-size-fits-all all. I was very interested in how I can apply this within my special education outlook and goals with my students. I found that no matter if you are in a general education classroom or resource room, these creative strategies can be used anywhere and even in our everyday life.

  2. I really enjoyed this book. I appreciated Wade and Hope focusing not only on students' engagement within school, but also checking in on colleagues and collaborating with colleagues as well. As teachers, we sometimes focus on so much of what is in the middle of our 4 walls within our classroom, but working outside those walls and collaborating with others makes for a better environment all around. After watching the YouTube video regarding the HUGE Transformation Hope and Wade made within the classroom its a bit overwhelming. But throughout the book, they made this strategy doable, and it's so much more than just buying things to make a classroom look amazing. It goes way deeper than that and I enjoyed that.

  4. It was well set up and clear expectations. I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the book so I wouldn’t recommend this one, but I would recommend they look through the other books offered.

  5. I really enjoyed this book study and felt that the book itself was an easy read as well as provided a lot of good information and activities to inspire others to step up their game and go out of their comfort zone to engage kids in the classroom. I also enjoyed the TED talks and the extra learning activities that were included after each section. I would definitely recommend this book and book study to colleagues!

  6. Oh my gosh! This book was full of wonderful ideas! I am so excited to try some of them, especially room transformations! As always, I love the self pacing of book studies. I had a snow day on Friday and read the whole book on that one day! I always recommend these to my colleagues!

  7. This was the third book study I have completed (Teach Like a Pirate, Relentless, and The Wild Card.) I feel they were all about getting and keeping students engaged in the contents, but used different strategies to meet this goal, out of all of them I liked this book the best. Maybe I liked this book the best because for some reason it was easier for me to read and understand. There wasn't anything I disliked about the book and I loved how all these book studies were put together. I would have all my colleagues read any of the three book, but would put this one at the top of the list.

  8. I enjoyed this course. I love how quickly I could get through the material but it was still affective. It wasn't daunting to start a section because I knew it would be interesting and it was material I could use. It is put together well. It made me want to visit Hope and Wade's school. If replying to other people's posts was to get us to get more ideas then that was affective. However, I don't plan to go back and read the replies people might post on my responses. Maybe I should! I will absolutely recommend this course to a colleague.

  9. I really enjoyed this book study course and how I was able to complete this course on my own time. This is my second book study and I plan to complete one more to obtain my graduate credits for the renewal of my teaching certificate. I really enjoyed that this book was written by a couple who were in the classroom for many years before sharing their creative breakthroughs with the world. I love that their theme is dealing with a deck of cards as I have grown to love card games in the last few years. Student engagement, going out of our comfort zones as educators, and taking risks was a huge takeaway I had from reading this book. I would highly recommend this book study to a colleague!

I really enjoyed this book study because it was interesting. I enjoyed learning about Hope and Wade. I felt that the book did a wonderful job of displaying who both Wade and Hope are. They were inspiring, real and encouraging. I also enjoyed the Ted Talks. I cannot say there is anything that I would ask to change. I will recommend this book study. Thank you for making this book study enjoyable.

  13. I really enjoyed this book study. I gained so many great ideas and insight from The Wild Card. I love the self paced classes. I love the combination of chapters, vlogs and TED talks. 14. I did really enjoy this book however, I did find it a bit overwhelming at times. There were so many ideas to try to follow along with and I did struggle with that at times.

The content, and the the insight into how they teach, was great, and I feel like I could learn a lot for when I go back to teaching in the future.

  15. I liked parts of this book. Some of the ideas and thoughts were overwhelming like previously stated. They did share good examples of overall classroom environments. I liked the book study for its self pacing and just the right amount of work. I will try to use some of these ideas in the future.

  16. I liked the entire book. It is always good for an educator to build their own toolbox and have exposure to new and successful ideas. This course really highlighted the ideas and concepts that book offered. This course was a great review and reinforcement of the authors content. The Blog posts were extremely relevant. The Quizzes were thoughtful but not overwhelming. I love Ted Talks and I enjoyed taking the time to watch them.

  17. Overall, I liked the book. I do think the room transformation piece is very overwhelming. Not only would it cost money to get supplies for the room transformation, but also, I have no place to store the things that I would make in order to re-use them the next time. I think Wade and Hope's work on their room transformations is energetic and admirable, but I don't see myself doing it. I like the other ideas from the book to motivate kids and keep my own energy at a higher level. I liked the book study because it uses not only the book, but also the Ted Talks. It was engaging, made me think, and do some work, but it wasn't too much. I will recommend it to my colleagues.

  18. I really enjoy book studies that give real life examples of how to put ideas to work. Hope and Wade shared so many great ideas! I could see myself putting several to work when I return to the classroom some day. I could see how their room transformations would easily add up financially but I think, with careful planning, there would be ways to make it work without spending so much. I really found the TED Talks to be very thought provoking. I will recommend this study to my colleagues.
